American musician and actor Awkwafina made her debut with humorous rap tracks that tackled sexual identity and race with a an incisive and humorous perspective, before broadening her reach to Hollywood. Nora Lum is the daughter of Chinese and Korean parents who hail from Forest Hills Queens. The trumpet was the first instrument she played for her. In the following years, she took up traditional and hip-hop training. While in college, she took classes in the field of women's studies and journalism.
